Roof Terrace Design London

An edible garden and insect hotel

Project Details

The Roof Terrace Design London really got our design team excited. Set within the thriving borough of Wimbledon in London, this top floor apartment with period features had used creative design ideas to cleverly utilise the space within and Studio 31 was commissioned to do the same with the existing and underutilised roof terrace; the properties’ only outdoor space.

The clients were keen horticulturists and passionate about sustainability who sought a tranquil roof terrace escape which had a low environmental impact. Studio 31 created a roof top vegetable patch, built with sustainable materials and a fully edible plant scheme. A series of herb green walls and raised vegetable beds not only provided a haven for local wildlife but also a source of food to stock the bespoke outdoor kitchen and fire pit. Up-cycled seating and an outdoor dining area completed the scheme by creating a secluded space to enjoy the homegrown produce and catch the last of the evening sun across the rooftops of outer London.

The biodiversity and sustainable elements of this project excited the team here at Studio 31 and they even extended their design work to include insect hotels and natural bee hives to ensure even the smallest residents of this unique London hideaway had front row sunset seats.
